Message from the Festival Producer
On behalf of the Dancing on the Edge Festival Society and all of the artists appearing at this year's festival, I would like to welcome you to EDGE 2007. The Festival is excited and proud to offer another great line-up of diverse artists who are ready to move and move you over the ten day event. From dancing in the streets to dancing at the Playhouse, this nineteenth festival focuses on the broad spectrum of contemporary practice that today's dance artists are excavating, exploring and exploding through their resilient and inspired creative processes.
How exciting to be able to share with audiences the amazing artistry of Coleman Lemieux & Compagnie in The Kudelka Project and see some of Canada's finest senior dancers work their magic while at the same time offering audiences the opportunity to discover new and established dance voices through the EDGE mixed programs. How exciting to support through partnership the commissioning of dance artist Tara Cheyenne Friedenberg for the creation and premiere of a new dance theatre work Nick and Juanita, which will tour Canada next season. How exciting to introduce audiences to Australia's Chunky Move and their cryptic and entertaining I Want To Dance Better At Parties. How exciting to be able to offer wonderful contrasts within the festival - pure dance, eastern and western fusion forms, storytelling, hiphop jiving ballet, dance meeting theatre. And all of that in only ten days!
In preparation for the Festival leaping into its third decade with the 20th anniversary year just around the corner, we have been having many discussions with individuals, organizations and stake holders about the future. We ask that you become involved in the discussion by dropping us a line, by filling out one of our what do you think forms, or by joining one of our Edge dialogue sessions scheduled throughout the festival. And don't forget to vote for the People's Choice Award - an honor that provides the winning artist(s) a cash award to aid them in continuing their work.
