Tara Cheyenne Friedenberg Tara Cheyenne Performance Vancouver, BC Choreographer
Tara Cheyenne Friedenberg Performers Alison Denham Bevin Poole Kim Tuson Highgate is a morbid romp through Victorian funerary culture, jumping straight from the darkest part of Tara Cheyenne Friedenberg’s imagination. Reflecting personal and collective grief a band of figures captivate in this fascinating gothic feast of death, physical oddity, humour and horror. A group piece to be performed by 6 dancer-actors with site specific elements. The work takes its title from Highgate Cemetery in London, England. Costuming by Alice Mansell, sound composition by Marc Stewart and lighting design by James Proudfoot. This trio is an excerpt of the full length piece which will premiere at The Cultch in fall 2012 with a cast of 6 performers, debuting the company’s first ensemble piece. Tara Cheyenne Performance is devoted to the creation and dissemination of highly physical, character-driven solo works that uniquely blend movement and text. Tara Cheyenne Friedenberg’s artistic vision is to create works that speak to people on the levels of common human experience, our own comic-tragic behaviour, and our lives in movement, gesture and dream. Tara Cheyenne Friedenberg is a Vancouver based performer, creator, dance-theatre educator, choreographer, and the Artistic Director of Tara Cheyenne Performance. Tara started dancing at age 3, attended ballet school, theatre school at the University of Calgary and attained a dance degree from Simon Fraser University. Tara has danced with some of Vancouver and Canada’s most exciting choreographers and worked as an actor in theatre and film. In 2000 Tara began developing her own dance-theatre creations with director Sophie Yendole and composer/husband Marc Stewart. Her solo creations (bANGER-The Power Hour, Nick & Juanita-Livin’ in my Dreams – both awarded People’s Choice at the Dancing on the Edge Festival) have been presented across Canada, in the US, Belgium and London, UK. Tara has been nominated for several Jessie Richardson Awards and an Ovation Award for her choreography in theatre. Through the
