30% Gone amalgamates various texts including: spoken, dance, music and most importantly, body. The work responds to very intimate points in Webb’s recent history, namely his father’s death, his heart attack and a dialogue concerning the sexualizing of the aging queer body. And, along the way, it presents music Webb loves, some humour, and is even about how much he loves dancing. Brian Webb graduated with distinction from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre. He then moved to New York City, working with Eric Hawkins who had an influence on his early dance making. During the 1970's, Brian premiered many of his first dances with the Carol Conway Company in New York. In 1986, Brian completed a master of Fine Arts degree in Choreography at the California Institute of the Arts. In 1979, he formed the Brian Webb Dance Company as "company in residence" at Grant MacEwan College, where he was the Chair of the Dance Program for ten years. The company began presenting a dance season in 1991and is now the largest season of contemporary dance west of Toronto. Since the beginning, the BWDC has been dedicated to experimentation, the new, and a collaborative creative process. His company has commissioned over 30 musical scores, numerous installations by visual artists and scripts by writers. Brian collaborates with local artists and works to give their work a broad context by tours across Canada and abroad. Romantic Old Horses

by Chris Randle
Performed by
Daelik Kostas Gerardos This duet was commissioned by Daelik to address the idea of lineage in Contact Dance. Peter Bingham was Daelik’s first Contact teacher. Daelik was Kostas’ first Contact teacher. The Contact-based duets created by Peter have a strong audience appeal because of their mixture of sophistication and simplicity. When working with highly skilled contact dancers Peter can make difficult, complex partnering look fluid and easy. To be skilled at Contact requires a long-term commitment to the form. Kostas and Daelik excel at it. Together the three men have created an exciting and unique duet. Peter Bingham was born in Vancouver, BC. Raised in an air force family, he lived in many towns and cities in Canada before returning to make his home in Vancouver. While studying at SFU Bingham discovered dance with Linda Rubin, his first teacher. She introduced him to improvisation and modern dance techniques. In 1976 American Dance artists Nancy Stark Smith and Steve Paxton, two of the leading proponents of Contact, visited and taught in Vancouver. Bingham studied with both Paxton and Stark-Smith, becoming a good friend of these artists and a committed practitioner of Contact. In 1977 after working for a number of years with Linda Rubin’s company Synergy, Bingham co-founded Fulrum with Andrew Harwood and Helen Clark. For two years Fulcrum presented Contact-based dance performances and workshops in Vancouver and across Canada. In 1982 Bingham joined seven independent dance artists to form the dance collective EDAM. As one of the company’s directors, Bingham performed in numerous improvisations and created many choreographed works. In 1989 Bingham became EDAM’s sole Artistic Director. Since then he has implemented the company’s ongoing program of choreographed productions, improvisational projects, workshops, classes and residencies. MACHiNENOiSY is a contemporary dance company based in Vancouver under the direction of Delia Brett and Daelik. The company’s mandate is to foster the research and creation of innovative performances that transcend the traditional notions of dance and theatre. Delia and Daelik are dedicated to the investigation of movement as an expressive art form and to the creative exchange of ideas. To these ends they actively strive to collaborate with other artistic mediums and interact with the international dance community. Above all they are dedicated to creating work that possesses physical clarity and emotional truth. Firehall Arts Centre Wednesday July 11, 2012 @ 9pm Thursday July 12, 2012 @ 9pm
