Thursday July 14, 2011 @ 9pm CLICK HERE TO BUY TICKETS How is identity reinvented in the space between two certainties: leaving one’s place of origin and the certitude of making a new home in an adopted culture? Blindsight is a multimedia-based dance performance that incorporates vivid and strong physicality with the dialogue between one’s interior and exterior worlds. It explores the sensations of transience and unrootedness that transform the newcomer’s identity. Born in Mexico City, Alejandro De Leon studied dance at the National School of Modern Dance of Mexico. Upon completing the program, he was awarded a two-year scholarship at the School of American Ballet in New York City. He has danced professionally for the Hartford Ballet, the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and CompañĂa Nacional de Danza in Mexico City. In 2004, Alejandro moved to Montreal, where he had the opportunity to work with the choreographers JosĂ© Navas, Marie Chouinard, HĂ©lène Blackburn, Roger Sinha, Lina CrĂşz and Sara Build. Parallel to his dance trajectory in Montreal, Alejandro has completed a bachelor’s degree in Film Production at Concordia University. He has directed several short films as well as having collaborated in larger scale performance installations with choreographers in Canada and abroad. In 2010, Alejandro created Lost & Found with the intention of creating an interdisciplinary playground for work that is based on dance. He is interested by the connection between emotional transformation and the reconstruction of space.
