unlike taste is a site-specific work choreographed by Vanessa Goodman with an original sound composition by Gabriel Saloman and performed by seven dance artists; Cai Glover, Jacqui Lopez, Lindsey White, Michael Kong, Lexi Vajda, Marisa Gold andMilena Read at Victory Square. This work is an exploration of the olfactory system and an excerpt of the full-length piece what belongs to you, set to premiere in 2012.
Vanessa Goodman received her early dance training in Toronto from CCDT, PBJ Dance Projects and Etobicoke School for the Arts. She holds a BFA from SFU and is a Co-Artistic Director of The Contingency. She is also a certified PMI Methods Pilates Mat instructor. Vanessa has been a company member with Dancers Dancing since 2006 and has interpreted works by Serge Bennathan, Justine A. Chambers, Marla Eist, Judith Garay, James Gnam, Lisa Höstman, Rob Kitsos, Simone Orlando and Julia Sasso. Vanessa’s choreography has been presented at local venues and festivals independently and with The Contingency Plan. Most recently Vanessa has been commissioned to create works for the SFU Woodward’s Opening Ceremony, the SFU 2010/2011 Rep class and Arts Umbrella. This past March Vanessa was Artist in Residence in Masset BC, to teach the community and perform the first section of what belongs to you, her first full-length work that will premiere in 2012. Vanessa would like to thank The Firehall and Donna Spencer for supporting the creation and production of this work.
