  Status Quo

Shay Kuebler/Amber Funk Barton
Vancouver, BC

An evening of solo and ensemble work, Status Quo is the result of Shay Kuebler and Amber Funk Barton joining forces to create movement that is dynamically bold and emotionally captivating due to its velocity, speed, musicality and articulation.

Each featured as soloists, Shay and Amber challenge each other to create newwork in opposition to how they are perceived and seen as performers and individuals. The result is two new physically charged solos that premiered Jun11, 2010 at the Canada Dance Festival (Ottawa, ON): Cabinet and Valentina.

A quartet for three men and one woman, Status Quo is a movement driven quartet that reflects the desire for instant entertainment and satisfaction. Inspired by channel surfing and television saturation, Status Quo is a journey that combines contemporary technique with an urban aesthetic that abruptlyshifts from scene to scene, or channel to channel, challenging the performers to endure in their present state while leaving the audience breathless.

Status Quo was made possible through a commission from the Dancing on theEdge Festival 2008 and supported by an Arts Partners in Creative DevelopmentGrant. It originally premiered July 2008 during the 20th Anniversary of the Dancing on the Edge Festival in Vancouver, BC. 2010.
